Aside from being one of the largest social media platforms in the world, Facebook is becoming well-known for something other than being able to like or dislike a post; digital advertising. If you’re like me, you are a very outspoken individual which means you’re not afraid to speak your mind on social media whether people like it or not.
As social media platforms and technology becomes more popular, individuals are starting to become more aware of the earning potential through leveraging social media to advertise online. Before pursuing an opportunity that means taking an hour out of your day to create an ad that can equal big dollars, most people do their research to determine if it’s “too good to be true”. That’s where I come in.
In this review, I will be discussing the pros and cons of advertising on a platform with over 175 million users along with explaining why Facebook advertising is gaining so much attention recently.
Advantages of Facebook Marketing
> The tools to create a Facebook ad are very easy to learn how to use. It only takes a couple hours to get a Facebook ad approved and you can even get a grade on the quality of your Facebook ad.
> You can create a target audience for your ad by age, location, gender, religion, marital status.
> You can target audiences based on user preferences. Facebook is able to identify individuals who have searched content related to your ad even if they haven’t searched it on Facebook….that’s kind of scary but true.
> Cost Per Click, this means that you only pay Facebook if an individual interacts with your ad.
> 175 million users…… Facebook users can turn your ad into thousands of dollars if you’re an experienced marketer.
Disadvantages of Facebook Advertising
> Costs Per Click tend to be more expensive than other platforms.
> You must know your market in order to be successful. You must keep in mind that people are on Facebook to catch up with their relatives and friends. They don’t want to see an advertisement when looking through family photos.
> People on Facebook tend to only interact with content produced by their family and friends.
> Since Facebook is not a place where purchases are made, you must be an experienced marketer to get your ROI on ads.
> May not see success right away, so dollars spent on ads without making money can add up over time.
Overview of Creating a Facebook Advertisement
Facebook Ads are extremely effective by allowing you to target specific audiences for your specific Facebook advertisement. In shorter terms, you’re targeting individuals who are already interested in your product or service to a good extent.
The first step in creating your Facebook Advertising is identifying a campaign objective for your advertisement. This is the message you’re displaying to your audience that’ll catch their attention before initially learning about what you’re specifically advertising.
The next step is telling Facebook who you’d like to target for you advertisement. Audience Segmentation is creating a customer profile for Facebook to target. Individuals will be targeted based on the qualities of your “ideal consumer”. This is just like selling grilled cheese outside of a bar at 2am as individuals who are already hungry looking for drunk food pass by your Grilled Cheese stand.
You can also enter information describing consumers who have already purchased your products. This is a custom customization that’ll only help you drive more conversions.
The next part is the fun part, creating your Facebook Ad. Facebook Advertisements are created to seem just like a normal Facebook post. The only difference is one post makes money and the other doesn’t. Facebook ads are highly visual and geared towards individuals who use mobile devices with social media.
The last and easiest step is using data and analytics to monitor the performance of your ads. This will allow you to make changes to your advertisements to increase success.
At the end of the day, what determines the success rate of your Facebook Advertisement is how much you’re willing to pay for your advertisement & the quality of your advertisement.
Attractiveness of Facebook for Advertising
Facebook’s global audience is made up of 1.5 billion people around the world; nearly 1/5 of the human population. We’ve talked a lot about customer segmentation. Customer segmentation proves extremely effective on platforms such as Facebook because you are segmenting a crowd over a billion people, that means there are specific niches that include a few hundred thousand individuals……*mic drop*.
Another attractive quality of Facebook is that it evolves with mobile devices use meaning that it’s just as easy to navigate through Facebook from your phone than on a computer. Facebook is experiencing a 27% YoY increase in mobile devices, among the highest with social media platforms.
An Alternative to Facebook Advertising
Based on everything there is to know about Facebook advertising, the only drawback in my opinion is having to be an experienced online marketer to see immediate returns. Before committing to learning about advertising on social media, I wanted to learn a more traditional form of online marketing classified as affiliate marketing in which you can make money off platforms such as Amazon advertising products that they sell.
In shorter terms, Affiliate Marketing is advertising products on a website you create. You can advertise products that are sold on platforms such as Amazon and Amazon will pay you a commission if you successfully sell one of their products.
